Design fonts in Affinity.
Draw your letters where you already design, hit “Send” and use them in any app. Affont turns them into an OTF or TTF font, installed in seconds.
Affinity didn’t make fonts. Now it does.
Illustrator users have had font plugins for years. In Affinity you had to export every letter and fight with editors built for engineers.
- 01Export every letter as SVG, one by one
- 02Pay for an expensive type editor
- 03Import, scale and align each glyph by hand
- 04Learn metrics, sidebearings and OpenType tables
- 05Export, install, restart Affinity, repeat
- 01Create the template
- 02Draw in the cells
- 03Send. It’s installed
Done. You have days left to design the next one.
One cell per letter
“Create template” builds a grid in your document with metric guides and margins. Full Latin (ES/PT/EN), caps, numbers or Japanese kana.
Draw with anything
Pen, shapes, vector brushes, converted text, unexpanded strokes: Affont turns them into outlines. Any layer works: each shape goes to the cell it sits on.
Spacing by eye
Move the two margin lines and you’re done: each letter’s width is set right there, in Affinity.
Send. It’s installed.
Hit “Send” and the app compiles with fontTools (the engine the industry uses) and installs the font for your user. It shows up in Affinity without restarting anything.
Kerning, by eye.
No tables: drag one letter toward the other on a sample text, done. Just like here. There are groups, auto-kerning as a starting point, and you can even import spacing from another font.
And if you want, in full color.
Paint a letter with several colors or gradients and Affont exports it as an OpenType-SVG font, with a COLR fallback.
Color shows up in apps and browsers that support SVG or COLR fonts. Where there’s no support, the letter appears in a single color, so your text never breaks.
Everything a serious editor has. None of the hard parts.
Review, touch up and export. Whatever isn’t better done in Affinity, is done here.
Ligatures and alternates
Name the cell f_i or a.alt1 and Affont builds the OpenType: liga, dlig, salt, ss01–ss20, small caps, tabular figures…
Spacing and kerning
Numeric margins or draggable lines, pair and group kerning, auto-kerning and importing spacing from another font.
Complete families
“New style” duplicates the project and Affont writes the OpenType names so Affinity groups Regular, Bold, Italic… on its own.
Glyph editor included
Nodes and handles, add and delete points, line ↔ curve, remove overlaps, flip, scale and rotate, draggable margins. Quick touch-ups without going back to Affinity.
OTF, TTF and WOFF2
For desktop and web. One-click install (Ctrl+I) and clean uninstall.
Real live preview
Your actual compiled font, live: pangrams, size waterfall and OpenType features you can toggle.
Open existing fonts
Pick up an OTF/TTF to keep editing it, or import metrics and kerning from another font as a starting point.
Automatic accents
Draw “a” and “~” and Affont builds á, à, â, ã, ä, ñ, ç… Full Latin for Spanish, Portuguese and English in minutes.
Strokes, layers, anything
Drew with a brush or an unexpanded stroke? Affont turns it into an outline when it arrives. And it doesn’t matter which layer a shape is on: it goes to the cell it sits on.
In your language
App and scripts in Spanish, English, Portuguese and Japanese. Kana templates included.

Frequently asked questions.
Which Affinity version do I need?
Affinity 3.3 or later. The scripts are imported once from the script library with a file the app gives you: no code involved.
Does it work on Mac?
Yes. Affont runs on macOS 11 or later (Apple Silicon and Intel) and on Windows 10 and 11. Your license works on 3 devices, on either system.
Do I need to know type design?
No. The template has cap-height, x-height and baseline guides, and margins are set by moving two lines. If you want to go further, it’s all there: group kerning, OpenType features, metrics.
Are the fonts I make mine?
Yes, 100%. Sell them, use them in commercial work or give them away. Affont adds no restrictions: by default the font’s internal description says “Made with Affont”, and you can change or delete it in Info.
How does the license work?
Paste your key once and you’re done. It works on up to 3 computers at a time; if you switch machines, free one from the app. It works offline for up to 14 days in a row.
Does it replace a professional type editor?
That’s not the idea. Affont is for making display, brand, lettering and color fonts fast from Affinity. For a text family with variable fonts and manual hinting, use a professional editor (you can start in Affont and open the OTF there).
Which languages and characters does it support?
Templates include Latin for Spanish, Portuguese and English, caps, numbers and Japanese kana; you can also add any Unicode character.
Is Affont a plugin for Affinity?
Yes. Affont adds two scripts to Affinity 3.3’s Script Library (create template and send) plus an app for Windows and macOS that compiles, installs and exports the font. You keep drawing in Affinity as usual.
How much does it cost to make my own font?
Affinity is free and Affont is a single $19 payment, with no subscription. Make as many fonts as you want: they’re yours, including for commercial use.
Does Windows warn that it isn’t safe?
It can happen. Because Affont is new, Windows SmartScreen doesn’t know it yet and may show “Windows protected your PC”. Affont is 100% safe: click “More info” and then “Run anyway”. It doesn’t happen on Mac: the app is signed and verified by Apple.

While the launch lasts, Affont costs $19 forever. After that, it won’t.
