Affont 1.1.4 and 1.1.5: Latin multilingual, Thai marks in place, WOFF and certified for Windows

Two updates in one post. What’s new:

Latin multilingual (1.1.5)

• Two new character sets, in Add set… and in the Affinity template:
  • Latin multilingual (Europe): every Latin-script language in Europe, plus Turkish (Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, the Baltic languages, Welsh…).
  • Latin multilingual (Europe, Asia & Pacific): the European set plus Vietnamese, the languages of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, Pinyin and the Pacific.
• Review shows coverage for 18 more languages.
• Build accented now also adds caron, dot, double acute, macron, ogonek and comma below (č ż ő ā ą ș), raises the accent over ascenders (ĥ ĺ) and fills in the letters that Add set… left empty. Draw the base letters and the marks, and it builds most of the set for you.

Thai and combining accents, in place (1.1.5)

• Thai vowels and tone marks place themselves on each consonant, as in Thai typefaces: the tone sits above the vowel without overlapping it, marks move left of the ascender of ป ฝ ฟ, and the lower vowel drops below the tail of ฎ ฏ.
• Combining accents (the ones drawn over the dotted circle) are centered on each letter, rise over capitals and ascenders, and stack, as in ấ.
• Kerning still applies with a mark between two letters.

WOFF (1.1.5)

In Export, also WOFF: the web font for older browsers and apps, next to OTF, TTF and WOFF2.

Certified for Windows (1.1.5)

The Windows installer and the app are now certified with a code-signing certificate: Windows shows a verified publisher instead of “Unknown publisher”, and VirusTotal finds nothing in it (0 of 71).

Missing letters, at low opacity (1.1.4)

In Kerning, Spacing and Preview, letters you haven’t drawn yet show in the system font, in faint gray: a preview of the ones still left to build. They can’t be edited and don’t form kerning pairs.

Also new

• In batches sent from Affinity without the template, accented letters no longer come out smaller (À is as tall as A), and sends from the same document share one scale (1.1.5).
• Double-clicking “Affont - Send” no longer sends the batch twice (1.1.5).
• On Mac, the menus in the top bar appear in the app’s language (1.1.5).
• If your license is already active on 3 devices, you can disconnect one from your visual.af account or with your purchase email (1.1.4).

After updating, import the Affinity scripts again to get the new sets in the template and the batch fix:

1. In Affont: Settings ▸ Scripts for Affinity (.afscripts)…
2. In Affinity: Script Library ▸ ▾ menu ▸ Import scripts… (delete the old “Affont” category first).
